Signals & Ciphers

Recreating the history of message sending, interpretation and encryption

Who are we

Signals and Ciphers Re-enactment recreate the signals and ciphers from history used by military intelligence for earliest times, through to the Royal Engineers involvement and following that the formation of the Royal Corps of Signals and their connection with the ATS.
We also portray ATA at air related events and have an interpretation for Home front related Rationion & Make do and Mend.

We also welcome interpretations from members who wish to represent other related personnel.

Available for events, talks and school visits.

All presentations include the connection between military security and the need to be aware of staying safe online in the modern world.

Signals

Signals & Ciphers give the public an opportunity to learn Morse Code and send and receive messages.  We use a variety of method inclusing sound Morse keys, lights and disks and shutters.

Ciphers & Encryption

Going further you can apply cipher code to your message so you can select the person who can read it after you send it.

We have a number of challenges around the display for people to take part in or decipher, including steganography.

Interception

Try and intercept messages and break the code.

Photographic Interpretation

Learn what could be discovered from photographs and find out what we can learn from photos from other people.
